We remind you that the 2009 PhDAY deadline to send your extended abstract is Friday, April 24th.

We would like to remember that the 1-2 pages description of your research should provide a high-level view of your research topic, highlighting the importance of the achieved results, the interdisciplinary of the presented work and the possible applications to the industrial world. Focus should be addressed also to the innovation and importance of your research.

The extended abstract should be comprehensible to an heterogeneous public; indeed it will be reviewed by some DEI professors, also belonging to a research area different from yours. Their evaluation will be based on your ability to clearly explain the significance of your work, without entering too much in technical details, yet pointing out the innovative contribution of your work.

The PhD School Open DAY 2009 takes place on the 18th of March 2009 to illustrate the DEI PhD Program in Information Technology.

During the event, PhD Students and faculty members will answer any question about the PhD program and the future career of a PhD both in the industry and in the academia.

At the end of an event like the PhDAY, it is very difficult to find the right way to thank all the people who helped with its accomplishment. In this specific situation it is even more difficult, because we have to thank everybody.

The PhDAY was a success because it has been built in a context that was ready to support it and to promote it. Therefore we should all congratulate and extend our thanks to one another. The PhDAY is an event of the department, and we are sure that the department itself will realize this more and more clearly.

The PhDEI Association has only been the instrument which the need of sharing, that was already present among people in DEI, exploited in order to acquire a new form. Something new and big has started: now we have to sustain it.

Heartfelt thanks and a warm hug to all of you who *believed that something extraordinary was possible*. Something extraordinary did happen, and now we must not let it fade. We have to move it from the extraordinary to the ordinary. We have to prove that the fire started with the PhDAY is now part of the flames that bring energy to our daily research.

Alla fine di un evento, come quello del PhDAY del 26 di Giugno, è difficile trovare le parole per dire grazie a tutte le persone che lo hanno reso possibile. Nel nostro caso siamo ancora più in imbarazzo, perchè il grazie va detto a tutti. La buona riuscita del PhDAY è stata figlia di un contesto che era pronto per tale evento. Il grazie quindi deve essere detto da tutti a tutti. Il PhDAY è un evento del dipartimento, e siamo certi che sempre più il dipartimento sentirà sua questa cosa.

La PhDEI Association è stata semplicemente il mezzo attraverso il quale ha preso forma una necessità ed una voglia di condivisione che era già presente all'interno dei DEI stesso. Si è iniziato qualche cosa di grande, ora continuiamo ad alimentarlo.

Un sincero abbraccio ed un grazie di cuore a tutte le persone che *hanno avuto bisogno di credere che qualche cosa di straordinario fosse possibile*. Qualche cosa di straordinario è successo, ora non lasciamolo unico e straordinario, riportiamolo nella nostra quotidianità, facciamo in modo che la fiamma accesa durante il PhDAY sia veramente parte del fuoco che guida la nostra ricerca.
